Printing for a Sixties Icon

Back in the 60s, you weren't anyone unless you had been photographed by Philip Townsend. Musicians and statesmen, actors and royalty, soldiers, tycoons and models - few escaped Townsend's searching lens.

Amazingly, despite an archive that runs to tens of thousands of images, no book has ever been produced to collect together the cream of the crop. Palladian Press is proud to announce that this will change as it prints Philip Townsend - The Limited Editions, which is being published by Silver Shutter Books. Palladian has been chosen because of the well-known quality of its photographic and fine art printing.

The book is a stunning documentary of life and personalities in the 60s, and its pages are like a Who's Who of the decade. Flick through its pages and you'll find shots of The Rolling Stones, Dudley Moore, Alec Guinness, Gene Pitney, Marlon Brando, Cilla Black, Frankie Howerd, Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, Twiggy, The Beatles, Yuri Gagarin, Jackie Onassis and many others. The period detail is exquisite, and you'll also enjoy images of classic 60s design, including cars by Aston Martin and Mercedes.

What makes the collection so special is the fact that much of the archive lay in a cupboard for decades, giving us a new and fresh insight into the period now that the photographs are being published. Renowned photographer Roger Eldridge summed up the discovery quite simply: "Philip Townsend's pictures are the Sixties."
