Student provides design for new prospectus

One talented student at Colchester Institute was given the opportunity to have her work showcased on the front cover of the College's 2010-2011 Higher Education prospectus.

Marie Chandler, 23, is currently in her second year of a BA (Hons) in Art and Design - Fashion and Textiles. Tutors from the Centre for Art, Design and Media selected works by various students to put forward for the front cover design. Through a series of focus groups with both students and staff there was one clear winner.

Marie, originally from Northampton, has lived in various countries, including Cyprus. She is now settled in Colchester for the duration of her degree. She comments on her achievement: "I am very proud to have my artwork chosen for the prospectus. It's a great opportunity to improve my portfolio and get my work seen in public."

Marie continues: "The finished product is great, and has exceeded my expectations - it looks very professional but still eye-catching."

Marie was taken to design and print company, Palladian Press - located in Colchester - to witness her design coming off the press. She says: "It was quite surreal to see my artwork used on such an important publication that represents the College. It's a great achievement, my family are very proud and I can't wait to show them the finished prospectus!"

Once Marie has completed her degree, she hopes to set up her own business selling fashion and textile designs online.
